Fridge saves third of a tonne from landfill

 Aberporth's Heart of the Community Fridge has saved a whopping third of a tonne of food from going to landfill.

The fridge - based in Canolfan Dyffryn - clocked iup the amount in just eight weeks.

Fridge co-ordinator Nic King praised the support from volunteers who ensure the fridge is open five days a week.

"Our volunteers are the key to the fridge success - we are seeing an increase in donations from local supermarkets and more importantly local residents are regularly dropping in for a chat and preventing food going to landfill," she said.

The fridge which has received support from Cynnal y Cardi and the Co-op has been funded by the Welsh Government Rurala Communities Rural Development Programme 2014-20which is funded by the Welsh Government and European Union.
