Funding boost for hall memories project

Aberporth Village Hall Committee are celebrating after being awarded £4,900 to capture memories of the 85-year-old hall.

The money – awarded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund – will enable the committee to scan over 80 years worth of handwritten minutes and collate them as a digital archive accessible to all the community.

The grant also includes funding for a bilingual video of senior villagers memories of the hall plus scanning days for local residents to bring any memorabilia such as tickets, photos, postcards etc to be recorded for posterity.

The images will be used to create exhibition boards which will go on permanent display in the village hall.

Hall committee chairman Richard Jennings said: “The hall has been at the centre of village life for nearly a century and this funding will enable us to document its social history and record it for future generations.”

The hall committee are working with local history group Hanes Aberporth to deliver the project and the first scanning days will be announced in November.
